New Way of Working
What concrete actions have you taken in support of the initiative.
In 2017, the Rural Rehabilitation Association for Afghanistan (NPO/RRAA) practiced two new initiatives: 1) integration of women's security into relief activities and 2) used the resources to meet the real needs of IDPs and returnees. For the integration of women's security into relief activities, beside provision of shelter material and non-food items NPO/RRAA organized extra capacity development sessions and empowered women members of families to speak out about their rights as internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees, their children's right to education, and their right to healthcare etc. Monitoring results indicate that those women who participated in training sessions were more able to go to related departments of local authorities at districts and provincial levels and claim what they are entitled to.
With regard to using resources to meet the real needs of IDPs and returnees, NPO/RRAA used multi-purpose cash provision through mobiles which resulted in: (1) the families were weighing the choice to use the money according to their needs; (2) NPO/RRAA was able to open a new gate for cooperation with private sectors and take advantage of available technologies like mobiles; and (3) promoted transparency and accountability to our stakeholders like our donors, governmental authorities and target communities.
