IMPACT, through its REACH initiative, supports humanitarian and development actors in understanding displacement. Within this framework, IMPACT aims to continue contributing to the research and understanding of displacement both within and across borders.

Within the framework of IMPACT's AGORA initiative, IMPACT has been developing and promoting new models for understanding of local contexts and capacities, and stronger coordination among local and international actors. IMPACT organised events on this subject during the WHS, and has commitment to transform this commitment into concrete support for more integrated responses in countries in crisis.

IMPACT will continue to implement pilots in contexts of sudden and protracted crises, such as Haiti, CAR, Somalia, Afghanistan, Jordan, Niger, in order to support area-based response and coordination, bridging the gap between international and local stakeholders. IMPACT will also work closely with UCLG in order to develop peer-to-peer support networks among municipalities, to provide additional support and capacity to local actors.

Achievements at a glance
IMPACT continues to conduct large needs assessments through its initiative REACH, in order to provide evidence for decision-maker to humanitarian and policy stakeholders. Over the past year, REACH facilitated joint needs assessments in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, South Sudan, Niger, Chad, Haiti and other countries affected by crises.
IMPACT also launched two global pilots of how to better respond and coordinate through area/settlement-based approaches, and conducted the first pilots in Jordan and Haiti. -

REACH will continue to facilitate needs assessments and M&E activities in support of humanitarian and development actors in countries in crisis. Moreover, IMPACT - through its new initiative AGORA - and in partnership with the EU, USAID and UCLG will continue implementing pilots for settlement-based responses.

IMPACT believes that more efficient responses to humanitarian crises will be made possible by ensuring a greater understanding of the needs and capacities of local populations and local actors, and by ensuring a more integrated and multi-sectorial response to the needs of communities.
