    IMPACT is committed to support an evidence-based shift between humanitarian and development assistance in countries affected by crises. Within this context, IMPACT is committed to provide information on needs and vulnerabilities, context and trends, to support effcient and targeted aid delivery.

    IMPACT continues to support evidence-based planning in numerous protracted crises, including Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Somalia, South Sudan and Afghanistan.

Reduce and address displacement

  • What led your organization to make the commitment?

    IMPACT, through its REACH initiative, supports humanitarian and development actors in understanding displacement. Within this framework, IMPACT aims to continue contributing to the research and understanding of displacement both within and across borders.

    IMPACT/REACH have been providing assessment capacity to better understand displacement and inform evidence-based decision making in Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Afghanistan, Italy, Greece, Libya, South Sudan, Somalia/Kenya, Uganda, Chad, CAR and Niger.

    Expansion of programs on the theme of displacement; quality of outputs; usage of outputs.

  • Next step to advance implementation in 2017

    IMPACT/REACH will continue expanding the work related to displacement and migration across all its countries of intervention, in order to provide information on displacement trends and intentions, population profiles, enabling an efficient delivery of aid.

  • What led your organization to make the commitment?

    Within the framework of IMPACT's AGORA initiative, IMPACT has been developing and promoting new models for understanding of local contexts and capacities, and stronger coordination among local and international actors. IMPACT organised events on this subject during the WHS, and has commitment to transform this commitment into concrete support for more integrated responses in countries in crisis.

    IMPACT has conducted pilots for area-based data collection and coordination in Jeremie (Haiti), Mafraq (Jordan) and Bangui (CAR).

    Number of pilots; progress and outcome of pilots.

    IMPACT will continue to implement pilots in contexts of sudden and protracted crises, such as Haiti, CAR, Somalia, Afghanistan, Jordan, Niger, in order to support area-based response and coordination, bridging the gap between international and local stakeholders. IMPACT will also work closely with UCLG in order to develop peer-to-peer support networks among municipalities, to provide additional support and capacity to local actors.

  • What led your organization to make the commitment?

    Ensuring more evidence-based planning, including through a better understanding of areas and communities affected by crises.

  • Achievements at a glance

    IMPACT continues to conduct large needs assessments through its initiative REACH, in order to provide evidence for decision-maker to humanitarian and policy stakeholders. Over the past year, REACH facilitated joint needs assessments in Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, South Sudan, Niger, Chad, Haiti and other countries affected by crises.

    IMPACT also launched two global pilots of how to better respond and coordinate through area/settlement-based approaches, and conducted the first pilots in Jordan and Haiti.

    - Increased usage of settlement-approaches as a unit for planning and delivery of aid

    Need to develop predictable partnerships to ensure more systematic assessments are conducted in contexts of crises.

    REACH will continue to facilitate needs assessments and M&E activities in support of humanitarian and development actors in countries in crisis. Moreover, IMPACT - through its new initiative AGORA - and in partnership with the EU, USAID and UCLG will continue implementing pilots for settlement-based responses.

    IMPACT believes that more efficient responses to humanitarian crises will be made possible by ensuring a greater understanding of the needs and capacities of local populations and local actors, and by ensuring a more integrated and multi-sectorial response to the needs of communities.

Invest in local capacities

Core Commitment

  • What led your organization to make the commitment?

    IMPACT is working in close collaboration with United Cities in Local Governance in order to develop a peer-to-peer support network for municipalities in countries affected by crises. Building on its Cities in Crisis study, launched during the WHS, IMPACT continues to work for an increased focus on supporting local response capacities.

    Partnership with UCLG; first deployment in Jeremie (Haiti) and Bangui (CAR).

    Further build peer-to-peer roster for local actors/authorities, in order to have a predictable capacity to support local authorities in contexts of crisis.
