Building community resilience
When we want to build community resilience, we have to know deeply the needs and the contexts of the areas of the intervention crisis. In order to achieve this objective, we must apply principles of humanity and no harm principles in our intervention of humanitarian projects. The intervention should be effective and timely. This strengthens local capacity and avoid negative effects. In 2018, the Organization for Rehabilitation of Somalia (OFROSOM) have implemented an emergency lifesaving intervention where it saved 1,290 persons from hunger, dying of thirst and lack of hygiene because the intervention was effective and timely.
2. A. Please select no more than 3 key challenges faced in implementing the commitments related to this transformation. Only the categories selected by the organisation will be seen below.
- Adherence to standards and/or humanitarian principles
- Gender and/or vulnerable group inclusion
- Human resources/capacity
B. How are these challenges impacting achievement of this transformation?
Exclusion of target beneficiaries in the project planning and implementation have negative impact on achieving of transformation because you cannot reach and select the most vulnerable target groups. The same impact if the capacity of the project staff is low and have no knowledge of the context and have no legitimacy among the communities.
3. What steps or actions are needed to make collective progress to achieve this transformation?
Collective progress can be achieved on this transformation if the donors' funds are enough for the emergency interventions and act at the right time with relevant needs conducted with the local partners who have good knowledge and local context of areas of intervention and legitimacy among the communities. Target groups beneficiaries, local community and authority should be part of the project planning, selection, and implementation at the beginning phase through to the end of the intervention.
